- John Inglis, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors
I am currently serving as a Township Supervisor asking for your support to be re-elected for another term. My wife, Carol and I are approaching our 50th wedding anniversary and also celebrating 50 years of living in the Lehigh Valley.
We moved to Upper Saucon Township in 1977 to settle down and start a family and boy has it grown!
We now have five wonderful grandchildren who we all adore.
Our public parks are growing by leaps and bounds! We’ve opened up Hopewell Park and are making improvements to the Community Park, but there is so much more to do. This past year we acquired 51 acres of land around Moyer’s Lake between Blue Church and Glen Road, 20 additional acres next to Hopewell Park and 20 acres along Taylor Drive. And we are actively working on acquiring many other large areas in the Township for open space and recreation. I have been actively involved in all these efforts as I continue to serve on the Township’s Open Space and Recreation Committee. So far, the Township has preserved over 800 acres of land but that is about to grow even larger.
A place to relax and smell the roses
There is nothing better than taking the kids to the park!
Acquired as Open Space. Moyer's Lake will be the newest Township Park
Programs such as National Night Out organized and presented by the Upper Saucon Police Department also includes other Emergency Services Units such Upper Saucon Fire Department and Ambulance Corps
We recently finished building a bridge to connect both sides of the Rail Trails over Preston Lane as part of our effort to grow and improve the walking pathways in the Township. Plans are underway to connect Hopewell Park to the Community Park with walkways and bicycle paths.
Upper Saucon has Summer Programming that includes, concerts, movies, and children's summer camps
Now that the Township has an international landmark of historical significance at the President Pump Site, it is my hope that we can turn this private access restricted property into an accessible historic Township Park and museum for the public to enjoy.
I’ve taken a special interest in working with Lehigh University, the property owner, and Mark Connar who is the historian that brought recognition to this site.
The beautiful surroundings will provide trails and pathways with insight into the Township’s rich mining and technical history with a full display of its geology and ecology.
One of the primary responsibilities of the Township is to keep our roads and highways safe and properly maintained to facilitate the flow of traffic by investing in the necessary equipment and manpower. Along with aggressive road maintenance programs, recent major road improvement projects include the intersections along 309 at Lanark Road, Passer Road and 378. Also, we are hoping to improve intersections by expanding the use of roundabouts similar to the school roundabout on Preston Lane.
